Dominion High School
2014-2015 & 2015-2016 School Years
The garden in a courtyard at Dominion High School is maintained by three teachers in the science department, student volunteers, and environmental science classes. With efforts from spring 2015, the garden has produced some lettuce as part of a test harvest. As the garden develops, leaders plan to grow cucumbers, tomatoes, and squash.
Parent liaisons, administrators, and councelors are aware of the project so that food can be made available to families in need. As the project grows, leaders plan to coordinate with elementary schools in the cluster as well.
H4OC funds have been or will be put to use in the purchase of garden tools, seeds, and portable green houses. This project not only provides food, but also serves as a powerful learning tool granting students the opportunity to grow their own food.
